The Importance of Specialised Medical Interpreter & Translators

Medical Translators & Interpreters of Vital Importance to Patients

Medical and legal interpreters

Dr. Anarella Cellitti, a faculty member at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock faculty member, has recently notes that it’s just as important to protect the rights of non-English speaking hospital patients as it is for those involved in legal proceedings.

“Our legal system provides certified court and legal interpreters to assist witnesses, plaintiffs or defendants. Medical patients deserve the same access.”

Cellitti is part of the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA), an organisation that focuses on care for minority patients around the world, promoting language access as a human right and she’ll be representing that IMIA at an upcoming Translation Conference in the US.

The three-day symposium is for medical interpreters as well as those interested in interpreter education and professional certification.
