Translation Error in New Irish Website

According to a report from RTE this week, a website launched as part of the commemoration of the 1916 Rising in Ireland went live with the Irish language version of the site translated using Google translate.

The company in charge of designing the website in question, www.ireland.ie, had used a Google translate version of the Irish text in order to have copy in place for design purposed. However the department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht had the copy professionally translated and supplied the correct replacement copy at a later date.

Irish speakers noted the automated translation of the copy was ‘nonsensical’. The placeholder text has however now been replaced by the correct translation.
